WETA
Deinacrida
SPECIES OVERVIEW

The gentle giant weta is one of the biggest insects on Earth, it's so big that it can easily dwarf most bugs. Their name actually comes from the Maori word wetapunga, or “god of ugly things” (We can't imagine why?). Though it looks like an oversized cricket, giant weta are too heavy to fly meaning escape can be tricky. Anyway, who needs to escape when you are basically a giant tank?
Amazingly the Giant Weta has been around since the age of dinosaurs!!! It is mainly a nocturnal insect, which is one of the reasons why it has survived for millions of years.
Their play style is solitary & tanky. Its a lot of fun running into a group of insects and taking them all on at the same time.
