Cockroach
Periplaneta americana)
SPECIES OVERVIEW
Cockroaches are a type of insect that are often seen as pests due to their tendency to infest human living spaces. They have a flattened, oval-shaped body and are usually brown or black in color. Cockroaches are incredibly resilient and can survive in a wide range of environments, including extreme heat and cold.

Despite their reputation as pests, cockroaches actually play an important role in the ecosystem as decomposers. They help to break down dead plant and animal matter, which helps to recycle nutrients back into the soil. In the computer game, players can learn about cockroaches and their unique adaptations that allow them to thrive in a variety of environments, as well as their important ecological role.

The life cycle of a cockroach begins when a female lays an egg capsule, also known as an ootheca. The ootheca contains multiple eggs and is deposited in a hidden location, such as in cracks or crevices in walls or furniture.
-
The eggs hatch into nymphs, which look like smaller versions of adult cockroaches but lack wings. As the nymphs grow, they molt their exoskeletons several times. Each time they molt, they become larger and more closely resemble adult cockroaches.
-
Once they reach adulthood, cockroaches are able to reproduce.
